All of us at Northern Nevada Center for Independent Living are happy to partner with the City of Sparks to put on one of our favorite events of the year — Mark Welllman Adventure Day & Abilities Expo.
People with disabilities and their friends and families are invited to try out hand-cycling, kayaking, and rock climbing through the use of a broad range of adaptive equipment at Mark Wellman Day on Sunday, June 2. This free event takes place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the Sparks Marina peninsula.
Now in its 19th year, Adventure Day opens up a world of possibilities for accessing physical activity, as well as information and resources from a variety of community organizations, including:
- State of Nevada Aging and Disability Services Division
- Silver State Fair Housing Council
- ADSD/Sierra Regional Center
- Shriners Hospitals for Children
- Notable Music Therapy Services
- Nevada PEP
- Nevada Governor’s Council on Developmental Disabilities
- Nevada Center for Excellence in Disabilities
- Nevada Care Connection/ Medicare Assistance Program
- Neighbor Network of Northern Nevada
- National Federation of the Blind of Nevada
- JUSTin HOPE Foundation
- Dungarvin Nevada
- Down Syndrome Network of Northern Nevada
- Autism Treatment Assistance Program and Sierra Regional Center
- Arts for all Nevada
- AMVETS Post 1 Reno
- ADSD Deaf and Hard of Hearing Division
- Achieve Tahoe
- Access to Healthcare Network
New this year, the wonderful people at Bradley, Drendel & Jeanney are sponsoring lunch for all of the participants. And we're thrilled that Lucy Venghaus will be joining us to provide ASL interpretation services.
Special thanks to the Nell J. Redfield Foundation and the City of Reno Parks Recreation and Community Services for their support of the event.
